The Nostalgia Sessions Part 3

LAST BLOG POST!

What I would like to take from this class is the idea that public speaking just isn't that big of a deal. I build it up to such epic proportions in my head, what with the nerves and the anxiety and all. I was just starting to get to the point in the semester with these speeches where I could explore how much fun I have up in front of people. I think that in another two or so speeches I may have been able to stop looking at public speaking as something that is going to tie my bowels into knots, but more as an opportunity to ...play. I'd really be able to take all of the tools I have acquired this semester and be able to use them to make a fun game out presentations in general. It's something I was able to do in my last rank test; instead of freaking out on whether I was getting everything right I was somehow able to relax and just have fun. I love martial arts, so why shouldn't I take the opportunity to enjoy the test? And it worked - I totally kicked ass. If I could translate this mentality into not only public speaking, but all other areas of my life, well, I think I would be one happy camper.

I've really enjoyed getting to know you all! (This has been my favorite class people-wise by far...) I hope you all have a fantastic summer!

  1. I will agree with you I think we needed to do more speeches and then we would have lost the anxiety behind saying the speech. The preparation was easy. It was the part of the information that was prepared that we had to talk about that gave us the jitters. Making sure that the time was right and making sure that all the information that the professor wanted to here was complete. But it was a great class. I really loved that we did not see each other much but we knew about what we had passions for. It was an AWESOME class.
You have a fantastic summer as well. See u Monday.

  2. I total agree with you. Anxiety can hinder one's abilities until you get a hold on it. For me, I can make things difficult for me in life or me things easy. We conduct public speaking all day long, but don't realize. It is great that you learned you were actually good at it and decided to turn the anxiety around and have fun with it. This class offered so many invaluable tools to use for both business and personal.

  3. All your speeches were very fun to watch and you did a great job presenting the information in an entertaining way. I was so sad I had to miss our demonstration speeches, you were asking for volunteers previously and I wanted to see you in action! I think you have that mentality already in your life or at least that's what it seemed like to me. You portrayed a very calm and confident person that likes to have fun so at least from my view point mission complete. Anyways thank you for always doing great topics and great speeches hope you have a good summer vacation.

  4. I think that that is a wonderful thing to take away from this class. It will be great to know that you can take something from one class and apply it to another or apply it to your life. That public speaking is no big deal is amazing to think of. I was also really nervous about speaking, but I managed, with some breathing techniques first, to pull them off. I wasn't perfect but I felt like I improved myself throughout the class. Taking a little more confidence with me, I am now moving on to the next class and the next challenge.

  5. I like your idea :) If people looked at speaking in that manner I think we, as an audience, would get a lot more entertaining and 'fun' presentations. Speakers get so worried about what the audience will think of them, not even realizing that the audience isn't half as harsh as they think they will be. Almost every human in an audience can find the humor in a slip up, forgot line, or something like that. I thought you did a great job this semester and portrayed yourself as very credible and knowledgeable in all of your speeches. I enjoyed this class with you and wish you great success in your future endeavors.

  6. For me this class was one of my favorites too, I really enjoined everyone's speeches. I learned so much from everyone's speeches that had not learned in two years of studying at Sierra College. All the speech topics we had were good topics with a lot of useful information. At first I did not enjoy this class but only because I was uncomfortable to be in front of everyone, but when I got to know everyone everything changed. I really liked everyone, and I think we had a lo of fun with the speeches! I know that I will miss this class, yet I wish good luck to everyone!

  7. I think I love this blog post the most of all that I have read. I enjoy hearing of how you grew in the class and it affected your mentality about public speaking. We all speak to strangers everyday, even when checking out in the grocery store, so it really isn't that big of a deal. Even in a setting like our class was, even though we are seeing the same people on a regular basis, the truth is that after the semester is over we will probably never see each other again. In that perspective, who cares what the others think? Just have fun and learn as you go!
